About me

Hello, I’m Jeff Stuhmer (he/him), a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) in Washington State.

I grew up in Littleton, Colorado, as the middle child in a family of five. I earned a business degree at Colorado State University, and moved to Seattle right after graduation. I spent the next 20+ years working in marketing and creative positions for companies in banking, legal, tech, non-profit, and news & information—I even started my own record label. However, I never really felt fulfilled or satisfied. In 2006, with the help of amazing counselors, I made some dramatic changes in my life that started an ongoing journey of transformation.

Over time, I recognized that I wanted to help others in the way I was helped. I went back to school to study addiction counseling and started working in a treatment center in 2014. Simultaneously, I entered Seattle University’s graduate program for mental health counseling and earned my master’s degree in 2017. Throughout this second career, I’ve had the privilege of serving a wide variety of people struggling with trauma, addiction and other mental health concerns. I’ve worked in outpatient treatment settings, as well as a university counseling center. I also returned to Seattle U as an adjunct instructor in the graduate counseling program. Now I’m in private practice, continuing to work with people on making positive changes in their lives.

Outside of the therapy office, I am an avid appreciator of the arts. I enjoy books, movies, visual arts, seeing local bands, and playing with my partner Judy in our punk band, Teen Cat.
